Reef Lippa

UC San Diego Men's Water Polo
D1 – Attacker  |  Thousand Oaks, CA

Living in Thousand Oaks, California, an area where the sport lacks the intense visibility of coastal water polo “hotbeds,” Reef faced a steep climb to catch the eye of Division I recruiters. He knew that to close the gap, he needed a drastic shift in his training environment. When he discovered the 6-8 Academy, his trajectory changed forever.

Accelerated Growth

Reef used the Academy to compress years of development into a focused window of growth. By traveling internationally with 6-8 and competing in showcases, he gained the “astronomical” skill growth and visibility required to move beyond his local club scene. The technical foundation he built allowed him to eventually transfer to Foothill High in Tustin (a powerhouse program) where he became an All-American.

The 6-8 Platform

The 6-8 platform played a critical role in documenting this rapid evolution. For a late-starter like Reef, having a data-backed profile was essential to prove to college coaches that his “upward trajectory” was real. By tracking his stats and metrics through the 6-8 Mobile App, Reef provided UC San Diego with the evidence they needed: he wasn’t just catching up; he was surpassing the competition.

Achieving The Dream

Now a Redshirt Junior at UC San Diego, Reef is a consistent contributor for the Tritons and an ACWPC All-Academic standout. He remains connected to the global community he found through the program:

The Academy helped me get into a D1 University which most likely would have never happened if I stayed in Thousand Oaks. It brought me so many friends from all over the world that I’ll be in touch with for years to come. It shaped the athlete and person I am today.
